Hi dudes…

Alright guys, I’ve gotten a lot of requests over the years to do tutorials and some behind the scenes things for my watercolor paintings. I tried to make video tutorials, but it was mindblowingly time consuming and involved watching myself talk for ages. So, not a great option for me. And it was so time consuming that I couldn’t justify giving them out for free. So, not a great option for you either.

Let’s try this.

I like to share stuff and watercolor has brought so much joy into my life, I’d like to pay it forward and help anyone else out there who’s interested in this awesome medium. It’s not just for grannies (although cool grandmas are always welcome).

So I’ll use this blog to do mini tutorials on my watercolor and drawing techniques. I’ll also mention art supplies I like (or hate), and perhaps share some of the ins and outs of how I’ve managed to survive so far doing what I like to do.

Stay tuned and check back here weekly (I’m thinking Fridays?), or better yet follow me on social media and subscribe to this blog. Tell all your friends who like to watercolor that there’s a new sheriff in town and she’s sharing her secrets. Etc. Y’all get the idea.

  1. Cool Grandma? That’s me! I love you blog. What an epiphany regarding yellow!
Hey, is that pot of black from China a watercolor, pigment or ink? I’ve used it for calligraphy (with my wonderful China brush) but having trouble keeping it black enough black.

    1. Thanks Ahnie! Nice to see you here 🙂
It’s hard to get a true black in watercolor without going over into a waterproof ink (hard on the brushes!)
I have special brushes set aside for when I want to use heavy-duty waterproof inks, otherwise I just go very light on the water and use sumi ink.
Sumi ink is available in most art supply stores, and it is wonderful stuff. Straight from the bottle, it is solid black and washes out of your brush easily. My favorite brand is Yasumoto.
